Items:
Jibble's Fist-in-a-Box

By: Arjan Wardekker
Type: Weapon, Weapon (magic)
Game: Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)

This 2 ft. cubic metal box looks like an ordinary fist-in-a-box or jack-in-a-box type of device. It has two handles, designed so you can hold the device with the hatch away from you, pointing it at something or somone else. The device has a small winch that can be used to pull back the spring and a lever that opens the hatch. Inside is a large metal fist. When opening the box, this fist flies away with at great speed. A Jibble's Fist-in-a-Box requires two hands to use, regardless of the user's size. Reloading a Fist-in-a-Box is a move-equivalent action that provokes attacks of opportunity. In addition to using it as a painful practical joke, the device can be used as an exotic ranged weapon.

The box itself contains a spring to lauch the fist. The fists come with an attachment for a special rocket flask. These rockets come in a basic and improved type and modify the range and damage potential of the weapon. Rocket flasks are single use only. The Boxes also come in Mighty varieties, but this bonus can only be used when firing the fist with a spring. The fists, while formally ammunition, are counted as thrown weapons for the purpose of breakage/loss (they are not lost or destroyed when fired, and can be used multiple times) and enchantment (a masterwork fist costs 300 gp, enchanting effects one fist rather than 50, and the enchantment bonus is not lost when scoring a hit). The Boxes can be enchanted as well, but enhancement bonusses do not stack.

Besides the normal Jibble's Fists-in-a-Box, there are also versions with special magical properties (see below):

Jibble's Magic Fist-in-a-Box Boxes

These 2 ft. cubic metal boxes are covered in runes. Besides that, they look just like ordinary Jibble's Fist-in-a-Box boxes. When fired, these items can produce a magical effect. The Boxes are command word activated. The command word must be spoken at the time of firing.

Box of Huge Fists
This metal box can be commanded to enlarge a fist it fires. The actual enlarging of the fists happens just before they reach their target (regardless of whether they actually hit). The enlarged fist does an additional 1d6 points of damage. Caster Level: 3; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Enlarge; Market price: 6050 gp (unlimited/day) or 1130 gp (1/day); Weight: 5 lb.

Box of Spellfists
When this box is activated, it enchants the fists it fires, so you can deliver touch range spells through them. For the duration of a Spectral Hand spell (3 minutes at caster level 3), you can cast a touch range spell with this item. As with a Spectral Hand, both the casting and the attack require only 1 action in total. The resulting attack needs to be checked if it would have scored a normal hit (for normal weapon damage) and if it would have scored a touch attack hit (for the touch range spell).
Caster Level: 3; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Spectral Hand; Market price: 10850 gp (unlimited/day) or 2210 gp (1/day); Weight: 5 lb.

Jibble's Magic Fist-in-a-Box Fists

These large metal fists are covered in runes. Besides that, they look just like ordinary fists for use in a Jibble's Fist-in-a-Box. When fired, these items are activated and turn into a version of the various Fist and Hand spells (see D&D System Reference Document or Player's Handbook). These magical fists continue as per the spell after being fired; they do not cause the Fist-in-the-Box's normal damage and use the spell's range instead of the weapon's. The Fists are command word activated. The command word must be spoken at the time of firing.
